A 17-year-old teen has tragically died following a hiking accident in the Lions Bay area.
In a release, Sea to Sky RCMP say they responded to the report of two lost hikers with Lions Bay Search and Rescue this past Sunday around 3:30pm.
They were notified of two hikers who had been “separated and were lost in the Lions Bay area”.
“It was reported that one of the hikers had fallen down a gully and the other had left the trail to try to locate their friend,” said Sea to Sky RCMP.
North Shore Search and Rescue was able to locate and extract one of the hikers. The second hiker, who had fallen down a gully, was located unresponsive later on and transported to hospital.
“Despite life saving efforts the 17-year-old youth did not survive.”
“Our thoughts and condolences go out to the friends and family of the deceased,” says Sgt. Dallas Langley of the Sea to Sky RCMP.
Police are working with BC Coroners Service as the investigation progresses.
