2 dead, 1 in critical condition after South Surrey crash Sunday morning

Two people are dead and other is in critical condition after a car crash in South Surrey Sunday morning.

Surrey RCMP say that at approximately 2:45am, they responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision in the 3300 block of 176 Street. A Volkswagen Golf with a single occupant was traveling northbound when it collided with a Hyundai sedan with a driver and three passengers that was going the same direction.

“Both vehicles were knocked from the roadway into a water-filled ditch on the east side of the roadway,” say police.

Tragically, despite immediate life-saving efforts from numerous first responders on scene, two people from the Hyundai have died of their injuries. Another person from the Hyundai is in critical condition.

“The fourth occupant of the Hyundai suffered non-life threatening injuries.”

Investigators have “detained the driver of the Volkswagen” and believe at this moment that speed and alcohol may have been involved.

“The Surrey RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team is leading this investigation, with assistance from Frontline police officers as well as the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS),” says Sgt. Tyner Gillies.
