A 21-year-old man who was sent to hospital with life-threatening injuries following a shooting in Coquitlam over the weekend has died.
Police responded to a shooting in the area of Westwood Street and Glen Drive in Coquitlam just before 4:15pm Saturday afternoon.
Officers found one man suffering from life-threatening injuries.
“The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries,” said IHIT in a statement.
The victim’s name will not be released as his family has asked for privacy at this time.
“This was a targeted shooting that happened in a busy area, with no regard for the safety of others,” says Sergeant Timothy Pierotti of IHIT. “We’re working closely with our partners in Coquitlam to determine what connection, if any, this has to the other recent shooting.”
The shooting on Saturday was the third one in as many days.
On January 4th, Coquitlam RCMP responded to a “brazen daytime shooting”. Police responded to a shooting in progress in the area of Johnson Street and Glen Drive in Coquitlam. Police say they received reports that “multiple individuals had shot at a vehicle” and were pointing a firearm.
No injuries have been reported and police were able to locate two suspects.
The next evening, police responded to a shooting in the area of David Avenue and Mitchell Street in Coquitlam. No one was injured.
