Environment Canada has issued an air quality warning for the Lower Mainland due to wildfire smoke from several wildfires burning across the province.
A yellow-level air quality warning is currently in effect, indicating a high risk to health.
“Smoke is causing or expected to cause poor air quality and reduced visibility,” says the weather agency.
The air quality warning covers Metro Vancouver, including Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, the North Shore, Richmond, Delta, Tsawwassen, the Tri-Cities, Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge, Surrey, Langley and White Rock, as well as the Central Fraser Valley, including Abbotsford and Mission.

Spend time in cleaner indoor air spaces, reduce or reschedule strenuous outdoor activities and use a portable or homemade air cleaner air at home if you have one.

Residents are advised to limit outdoor activities and reduce the duration and intensity of physical exertion due to the high health risk posed by poor air quality.
“Check in on others who may be more affected. People at higher risk include those with lung, heart or other chronic conditions, pregnant people, infants, children, older adults, and outdoor workers.”
Residents can reduce smoke exposure by staying indoors with windows closed, keep cool in air-conditioned spaces, and seek medical care if symptoms become severe.
