Gino Odjick, a fan favourite and legendary Vancouver Canucks enforcer, has died at the age of 52.
The sad news was first shared by Gino’s sister and the Canucks issued their own statement afterwards.
“The Vancouver Canucks and Aquilini family mourn the tragic passing of Gino Odjick,” said the Canucks in a statement shared on social media.
“He inspired many and embodied what it means to be a Canuck.”
Gino Odjick was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the fifth round (86th overall) in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft. He played in a total of 8 seasons for the Canucks from 1990–91 to 1997–98 and is still the Canucks franchise leader in penalty minutes.
On June 26th, 2014, Odjick revealed that he was diagnosed with the rare terminal disease AL amyloidosis. Odjick fought the disease with tremendous courage and will always remain in the hearts of Canucks fans.
RIP Gino.
