Burnaby man charged with 2nd-degree murder in connection to South Vancouver homicide

A Burnaby man has been charged with 2nd-degree murder in connection to a homicide that occurred in South Vancouver in early April.



Around 6am on April 3rd, VPD officers responded to “reports of screams and a person lying on Rosemont Drive,” just north of Fraserview Golf Course.

The woman has been identified as 49-year-old Gertrude Cheong. She had been fatally stabbed, and died at the scene.

On April 4th, 29-year-old Eric Lau was charged with 2nd-degree murder.

“The investigation has established that the victim and accused knew each other,” said police in a statement.
