Police searching for suspect involved in New Year’s Eve sexual assault in Burnaby

Police are searching for a suspect involved in a sexual assault incident in Burnaby on New Year’s Eve.

Burnaby RCMP say the incident occurred at about 6:30pm. The female victim was walking east on Brentwood Drive towards Delta Avenue when she noticed a man walking behind her.

The man, who was not known to her, asked the victim for directions before hugging the victim, groping her, and attempting to kiss her.

The victim was able to push away the suspect, who ran towards Anola Drive. Fortunately, the victim was not physically injured in the assault.

The suspect is described as:

  • South Asian male
  • Approximately 40-45 years old
  • Slim build
  • Short grey hair
  • Wearing a light brown jacket and black pants

“We want the public to be aware of this incident and to report anything suspicious to police,” said Cpl. Laura Hirst with the Burnaby RCMP.

“We would also like to applaud the victim for her bravery. She was able to quickly flag down a passerby and call police for help right away.”

Officers have canvassed the area for surveillance video and are now turning to the public for help. Investigators are looking for dash cam footage from Brentwood Drive between Beta Avenue and Delta Avenue taken between 6pm and 7pm on December 31st.
