Burnaby RCMP are searching for a suspect after a women was groped by a stranger at a local park.
Police responded to a report of a woman who had been groped by a man in Central Park just before 7:30pm on Wednesday, August 20th.
The incident occurred near the 5900 block of Patterson Avenue.
T”he victim had been walking alone on the trails, when a man approached her, touching her chest and vaginal area,” said Burnaby RCMP in a release”After the incident the suspect ran away to another area of the park.”
Police say the victim and suspect are not known to each other. The woman suffered no physical injuries, and reported the attack to police right away.
The suspect is described as a Caucasian man, who is roughly 35 to 45 years old and stands 5’6 tall with a slim build. He’s also described as having brown eyes and no facial hair.
He was wearing a white hoodie, black shorts and a multicoloured windbreaker.
“Our investigative teams are actively working to identify the suspect in this incident,” said Acting Officer in Charge of Burnaby RCMP, Superintendent Sunny Parmar. “Public safety remains our priority; we have engaged our Community Response and Bike Teams for enhanced patrols in the area.”
In light of this troubling incident, police are reminding the public to always be aware of their surroundings, plan routes to avoid isolated areas, trust your instincts, and avoid situations that do not feel safe.
“We are encouraging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information regarding the suspect to contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999 and quote file number 2025-29345,” added Cpl. Laura Hirst, Media Relations Officer.
