The BRRR is back: Canadians should prepare themselves for a chilly winter

The Farmers’ Almanac extended winter forecast is out and Canadians should be ready for a chilly winter ahead. “Yes, Canada, traditional winter weather is coming back,” says Farmers’ Almanac.

“Get ready to enjoy hot chocolate by the fireside, skiing, ice skating, and all things winter!”

Winter officially starts on Wednesday, December 21st, 2023, but Canadians will see colder temperatures well before.

“Very cold temperatures and lots of BRRRs” are expected for much of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and westernmost Ontario. Over in Newfoundland and Labrador, cold temperatures are also expected but it won’t be “as cold as the middle of the country”.

Here in British Columbia, we’ll see near-normal temperatures throughout the winter season.

As for snow, areas around the Great Lakes are expected to see above-normal amounts. The Farmers’ Almanac even states that a white Easter Sunday seems possible for southern Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada!

BC will see a “mixed bag of wintry precipitation”.

“British Columbia will see another wet, white winter with temperatures just above and below the freezing mark.”

Winter is coming.
