Which roads in Vancouver will be closed for the Celebration of Light fireworks this weekend?

In News by Anywhere Vancouver

The City of Vancouver is preparing to welcome hundreds of thousands of people to downtown Vancouver beginning this weekend for the Celebration of Light fireworks, and people are being warned of several road closures planned for the West End.

TransLink detours and additional services

Like previous years, TransLink is boosting transit service during the three Celebration of Light fireworks evenings.

Extra bus service will be in place throughout Metro Vancouver, including downtown Vancouver. The SkyTrain will operate every 2 to 3 minutes before and after the fireworks. Bikes will not be permitted on SkyTrain after 10:30pm. Additionally, Burrard, Granville, and Waterfront stations will have “modified access to entrances” due to the potential for crowding.

SeaBus sailings will run every 15 minutes from 9:15pm to 11:15pm. Sailings will run every 30 minutes after 11:15pm until 1:22am.

To accommodate the large crowds and road closures, the following bus services/changes will be in place for each night:

  • Special pre-event shuttle service from 6:30pm to 9:30pm will run from Burrard Station to the intersection of Denman Street and West Georgia Street
  • Special post-event shuttle service will run from the intersection of Bidwell Street and West Georgia Street
  • Post-event service will drop customers off at the intersection of Burrard Street and West Georgia Street before continuing to Waterfront Station
  • Post-event service to West Vancouver and North Vancouver will run from the intersection of West Georgia Street and Denman Street
  • Routes 2, 5, 6, (5pm to midnight) and 23 (8am to midnight) will be rerouted due to road closures

TransLink is also operating a special West Coast Express train on Saturday, July 27th. One train will leave Mission City Station at 7pm and arrive at Waterfront Station at 8:15pm. The train leaving downtown will begin boarding at Waterfront Station at 11pm and leave at midnight.
