Firefighters rushed to rescue people from a downtown Vancouver construction site Wednesday morning.
Not much has been shared, but crews confirmed that they were on scene in the 1000 block of Nelson Street. BC Emergency Health Services received a call at 10:41am saying that there has been a collapse at a construction site on Nelson Street between Burrard and Thurlow.
Seven ambulances responded to the scene, where paramedics cared for three patients and transported them to hospital. A fourth patient was tended to but declined hospital transport.
“Active rescues in progress. Avoid the area if possible,” said the fire department at 11:25am.
Thurlow between Nelson and Smythe Streets were closed to allow crews to operate. The fire department confirmed that crews have “finished rescue operations” and Thurlow Street has reopened.
