Desi Indian Lounge is giving back to the community by supporting ongoing fire relief efforts in Summerland.
From September 10 to 12, the downtown Vancouver restaurant will donate 50% of sales from its signature seven-course Himsagar tasting experience to support Summerland fire relief efforts.
For Deepak Khanchi, Owner of Desi Indian Lounge, the initiative is rooted in the Sanskrit philosophy Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – “the world is one family”.
“Hospitality is about more than welcoming people into our restaurant. It is about being part of a larger community,” says Khanchi.
“Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam reminds us that the world is one family, and when a community is facing difficult times, we believe in coming together and contributing in whatever way we can.”

The seven-course tasting menu is inspired by the legendary Himsagar Express, which journeys across India from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.
“Himsagar is about taking our guests on a journey and showing just how diverse Indian cuisine is from one region to the next,” says Ajagaonkar. “For these three evenings, that journey has an even greater purpose. Food has an incredible ability to bring people together, and we’re proud to use this experience to help support another community while celebrating the people and producers of Summerland at our table.”
All wines served throughout the three evenings will be sourced exclusively from Summerland wineries. Wine Consultant and Sommelier Katya Movsesian will pair the seven-course menu with wines from Summerland’s Silk Scarf Winery and Lightning Rock Winery.
The seven-course tasting menu, complete with Summerland wine pairings, will be available for $85 per person.
Beyond the three-night fundraiser, the Himsagar seven-course tasting experience will continue to be available as we head into the fall season.
