A dog was killed in a collision in North Vancouver last week involving a commercial vehicle.
Police received a report of a dog that was run over by a commercial vehicle at the intersection of West 3rd Street and Forbes Avenue at 11am on May 17th.
“A man and their leashed dog were waiting to cross Forbes Ave. on the south side of West 3rd St. when a commercial vehicle making a turn jumped the edge of the side walk and ran over the dog,” said Cst. Mansoor Sahak, Media Relations Officer for the North Vancouver RCMP.
The dog, who was named Sweety, did not survive its injuries.
The commercial vehicle failed to stop after the accident. Police say the driver was in a “dump truck” style vehicle that had two dump beds as a trailer attachment.

“The owners of Sweety are devastated by the loss of their pet,” said Cst. Mansoor Sahak. “Our investigation is ongoing and it is too early to tell if the driver intentionally fled the scene or if they had any knowledge of the collision at the time of incident.”

Investigators are looking to speak to people who were driving or walking near West 3rd Street and Forbes Avenue on May 17th between 10:50am and 10:55am who saw the collision. Anyone with information or dash cam footage is asked to contact police at 604-985-1311 and quote file 24-9578.
