Driver involved in fiery crash on Trans-Canada Highway confirmed dead at the scene

More information has been released about a fatal vehicle collision that closed a section of the Trans-Canada Highway yesterday.

Just before 7am Thursday morning, two vehicles collided head on while “negotiating a curve” on the Trans-Canada Highway 1 near Spences Bridge, BC. The tractor trailer travelling northbound came to a rest down a steep embankment and on a rail line below. A fire broke out and the driver of the northbound tractor trailer, a lower mainland male, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the other tractor trailer involved in the crash is speaking with investigators and cooperating with the investigation.

The BC Highway Patrol is leading the investigation.

“All avenues of investigation are being considered however impairment by drugs or alcohol have been ruled out as a factor in the crash,” said police in a statement.
