Hyack International Parade & Festival
Circle your calendars! One of BC’s largest family-oriented parades is happening right here in Metro Vancouver this spring.
The 53rd annual Hyack International Parade returns to New Westminster on Saturday, May 25th.
Organized by the New Westminster Hyack Festival Association, the parade features over 100 entries from throughout BC and some from the United States.
“We are excited to once again bring the community together for the Hyack International Parade & Festival,” said Jennifer Winning, Executive Director of the New Westminster Hyack Festival Association. “This event celebrates the rich tapestry of cultures that make our city so vibrant, and we invite everyone to join us for a day of fun, friendship, and celebration.”
Parade
The 2024 parade is shaping up to be one of the best parades in years, with multicultural community groups representing China, the Philippines, and Japan already confirmed to participate. Out of town bands include the Arlington High School Band from Syracuse, New York and The Beat Goes On Band from Portland, WA.

There will be tons of dancers also taking part, including the Vancouver Lion & Dragon Dancers, the Golden Spike Can Can dancers, the Country Cuties, and more! Not to mention, spectators will get to see vintage bicycles, MGBs, Shelbys, Thunderbirds, Volkswagens, and a slew of 100-year-old Tin Lizzies!
The parade begins in the morning at 11am at the intersection of 8th Avenue and 6th Street. From there, the parade heads down 6th street before turning left onto Queens Avenue. To wrap up the parade, the procession will turn left onto 1st Street before arriving at Queens Park by 1pm.
“Spectators lining the streets will be treated to a dazzling display of colorful floats and lively performances, embodying the spirit of unity and diversity that defines the New Westminster community,” says event organizers.
Family-friendly festival
The fun continues over at Tipperary Park with the Hyack Festival! Happening from 11am to 4pm, this free, family-friendly festival will have 25 food vendors, including food trucks, offering delicious meals and desserts, live entertainment and market vendors.
Attendees will be able to enjoy their food outdoors around Tipperary Park, or in the designated seating area in front of one of the entertainers.
This year’s event will also have a Kids Zone, a photo booth to capture all your fun memories, and a Pet Zone, all packed with free activities and surprises for everyone! Make sure you head over to the photo booth for a chance to take home a free printed photo!
