Vancouver Polar Bear Swim 2024
One of Vancouver’s most beloved New Year’s traditions is back for another year! The 104th Vancouver Polar Bear Swim is taking place at English Bay on Monday, January 1st, 2024.
The 2023 swim saw over 6,000 people brave the cold waters off English Bay as they celebrated the start of a new year.
“Vancouver’s Polar Bear Swim is one of the largest and oldest in the world, and we’re delighted to host such an important and fun community tradition,” said Park Board Chair, Brennan Bastyovanszky. “It’s always amazing to see so many people come together to start the year off with an exciting challenge.”
The event will run from 12pm to 4pm with swimmers taking the plunge at 2:30pm. Participants who register online will receive a participation certificate.

Change rooms, washrooms, lockers, and warming tents will be onsite for participants. Coat check, by cash or tap donation, will be available on-site, with all funds going to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank
Organizers recommend swimmers to come swim-ready. Portable toilets will be available on site.
After completing the frigid swim, participants can pick up their commemorative button at the centre-tower Family Zone or information tents spread throughout the beach. Commemorative merchandise such as hoodies, toques and t-shirts will also be avaialbe for purchase at the event.
Live music, entertainment, and food trucks will also be at the event, creating a fun environment for all!
