Freezing rain makes for slippery Friday morning commute in Metro Vancouver

In News by Anywhere Vancouver

Freezing rain overnight across Metro Vancouver has made local roads slippery this morning.

A freezing rain warning has been issued by Environment Canada for the Fraser Valley

“A Pacific frontal system has brought warm air aloft while cold outflow is keeping surface temperatures below freezing. These conditions will produce an extended period of freezing rain. The freezing rain will transition to rain from west to east beginning with Abbotsford this morning, Chilliwack this afternoon, and finally Hope this evening,” says the weather agency.

“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.”

Icy and slippery conditions are also being seen in other parts of Metro Vancouver.

A car has flipped over on Highway 99 just after the Highway 17A overpass Friday morning.

Lane closures are in effect for the Alex Fraser Bridge to allow crews to undertake winter operations.

Here’s a look at the weather for this weekend with the snow expected to be washed away in the coming days.
