Vancouver restaurant group giving back with healthy meals as students return to school

As students prepare to return to class, one local Vancouver restaurant group is giving back with healthy meals.

Glowbal Restaurant Group (GRG) and Vancouver Firefighter Charities (VFC) are gearing up for another year of providing healthy, nutritious meals to students in need with GRG’s School Meals For Kids program.

The culinary teams at Glowbal, Coast, Italian Kitchen, Black + Blue, Riley’s and Five Sails prepare meals that are delivered by off-duty firefighters to twelve schools throughout the region, including Strathcona Elementary, Seymour Elementary, Britannia Secondary, and Vancouver Technical Secondary.

This unique initiative is done through VFC’s Snacks For Kids program, which was founded back in 2013 with the Vancouver School Board.

“Our partnership with VFC has been extremely rewarding and we are proud to continue lending a hand through the School Meals for Kids program,” says Glowbal Restaurant Group CEO Emad Yacoub. “It’s another opportunity for our Glowbal family to reaffirm our commitment to vital causes in the community and provide a helping hand to students and families across the city.”

Snacks For Kids is a volunteer-led program supported entirely through Vancouver firefighter payroll donations and fundraising events that provides nutritious non-perishable snacks, fresh food and take-home groceries to students across the city.

“We’re so grateful to the whole team at Glowbal Restaurant Group for their continued generosity and support of our efforts to ensure kids across the city don’t have to go through the school day with an empty stomach,” says VFC Executive Director Eric Himmelman. “It’s through the support of companies like Glowbal and our volunteer teams that we’re able to provide relief to people who need it the most.”

All costs of the School Meals For Kids program are covered by Glowbal. The indivual meals delivered to students include Spaghetti and Meatballs, Oven-Roasted Chicken Thighs with French Onion-Style Sauce, Chicken Salad with Herbs, and Beef Bourguignon.

Non-profit organizations and community groups can also step in to help with the program this year. If you’d like to partner with Glowbal to help with delivery in the Vancouver area, please contact Tara Armstrong (tara@taraarmstrong.ca) and Michelle Lan (mlan@michellelanpr.com).
