A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help support the family of a young woman, who died tragically in a single-vehicle collision in Surrey.

The victim has been identified only as Saniya, a 19-year-old international student from India.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share the tragic news of an International Student Saniya. She arrived in Canada on July 9, 2024, full of hope and excitement for a bright future. Tragically, on the early morning of July 11, 2024, she was involved in a fatal accident on Surrey 99 Highway and passed away at the tender age of 19,” reads the GoFundMe page set up by Baljinder Bhandal.

“We are now faced with the heart-wrenching task of bringing her body back to India so she can rest in peace among her loved ones. The costs associated with this are overwhelming, and our family has already exhausted our savings to send her to Canada.”

Surrey RCMP responded to a report a single-vehicle collision on Highway 99 north of King George Boulevard around 1:30am on July 11th.

Responding officers found a woman in her early 20’s who had been ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle, a 23-year-old man, and another passenger, a 22-year-old man, were found trapped inside the vehicle. Both were transported to hospital.

Bhandal says donations collected will allow Saniya to have a “proper farewell”.

“We are reaching out to you, our friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers, for support. Any contribution, no matter how small, will help us cover the expenses of sending Saniya’s body back to India and providing her with a proper farewell.”

As of early Wednesday afternoon, the campaign has already raised over $9,800.
