A fundraiser has been launched to help the family of a man who was found deceased near a BC highway in Nanaimo earlier this month.

On Wednesday, November 12th, 23-year-old Mahadi Redwan was found deceased near Highway 19A, between Turner and Mostar Roads in the southbound direction.

Redwan reached out to a colleague in Nanaimo to discuss securing a ride to Courtenay on November 2nd. The following day, he wasn’t home when his ride arrived at his residence to pick him up.

A criminal investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.

“Investigators believe the circumstances surrounding Mr. Redwan’s death occurred at that location on the evening of November 2, 2025, at around 8:15pm,” said Cst. Gary O’Brien.

A fundraiser launched to support his family says he came to Canada only six months ago from Bangladesh with “hope, courage, and a dream to build a better future for his family”.

“His passing is now part of a criminal investigation. His friends, community, and loved ones are devastated as we struggle to accept this painful reality,” reads the fundraiser.

The fundraiser is raising money to help cover funeral costs, send his body back to Bangladesh, and to support his wife and their unborn child.

“Sending a loved one home is extremely expensive, and his family simply cannot afford this burden. They have lost their son—and his young wife has lost her husband and the father of her child. They should not have to face these hardships alone.”

Anyone with information or dash cam footage from the area are asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at their non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
