A man who violently stabbed a stranger inside a downtown coffee shop is now residing in Vancouver.
30-year-old David Morin stabbed a Mexican tourist inside a Tim Hortons coffee shop in Downtown Vancouver on January 22, 2022. He was convicted of aggravated assault and was sentenced to three years in jail in June 2022.
The Vancouver Police Department has been informed that Morin has been granted statutory release by Correctional Service Canada. He will now be allowed to live in Vancouver while on parole.
“Police believe Morin poses a high risk of significant harm to the community, and that compelling circumstances exist to warn the public that he will be living in Vancouver,” said Sgt. Steve Addison in a release.
The attack happened inside the Tim Hortons at Harbour Centre, located near Seymour and West Hastings Street. The victim, a newcomer to Canada, was waiting in line when the suspect “approached from behind and repeatedly stabbed him in the back and shoulder” before running out of the store.
