Randall Hopley, 58, failed to return to his halfway house on November 4th, triggering a Canada-wide search. After leaving his halfway house, he boarded a bus near Main and Cordova streets. Later that afternoon, he removed his electronic monitoring bracelet near Main Street and East 8th Avenue.
Hopley has a history of sexual assault, assault, and property crime convictions. He had received a six-year prison sentence for abducting a boy in 2011 from his BC home. He was released in 2018 and has been living in a Downtown Eastside halfway house as a condition of his 10-year long-term supervision order.
During the 10-day search, 18 full time investigators were assigned to the case.
