It’s an exciting time to be a Canucks fan right now and numerous viewing parties have popped up throughout Metro Vancouver over the last couple of weeks.

One of the last cities to announce they would be holding viewing parties during the playoffs was Vancouver. That all changed this weekend when the City of Vancouver hosted the city’s first viewing party at Oak Meadows Park, located at located at Oak Street and West 37th Avenue.

Dubbed “Playoffs in the Park,” the first viewing party was held yesterday for game 3 of the Canucks second round series against the Edmonton Oilers. The Canucks won 4-3 and now lead the series 2-1.

Pictures shared on social media show Canucks fans coming out in huge crowds to cheer on the team.

Vancouver City Councillor Mike Klassen shared a video of the crowd reacting to the Canucks’ fourth goal of the game.

Mayor Ken Sim, and City Councillors Sarah Kirby-Yung, Rebecca Bligh and Lenny Zhou were also in attendance with the rest of the community.

“Judging by the numbers of kids in attendance & between-period play breaking out I’d say tonight’s inaugural Oak Meadows Park viewing party was a big success,” said City Councillor Mike Klassen on X.

The free, family-friendly public viewing party was set up in the north end of the park and the City says the area can accommodate up to 2,000 people.

If the Canucks advance to the Western Conference Final, the City will host viewing parties at the PNE that can accommodate up to 6,000 people.

The next viewing party takes place Tuesday, May 14th at 6:30pm for game 4.
