As they’ve done many times before, Kobe Japanese Steakhouse is giving locals yet another reason to visit the legendary Vancouver restaurant.
The downtown establishment is celebrating its 58th anniversary this month with a limited-time prix-fixe $60 anniversary menu beginning Monday, March 9th.
Available Mondays through Thursdays from 5pm to 11pm, the menu showcases the dishes that have made it a favourite of locals and visitors alike since it opened its doors in 1968.
Start with Shabu Shabu soup, fresh seasonal vegetables, and teppan shrimp served with steamed rice, followed by flame-kissed tiger prawns, sirloin steak, and teriyaki chicken, and finish with a choice of Mario’s Gelati for dessert. Guests can also upgrade their experience by substituting a 6oz Filet Mignon for sirloin or adding a 4oz Lobster Tail for an additional charge.

Complimenting the anniversary menu is a special cocktail called the Crown Jewel ($18) that adds a modern twist to a former menu favourite. It offers a Japanese twist on a classic New York Sour in a libation that mingles Suntory Tori whisky, lychee sake, fresh lemon juice and simple syrup finished with a float of BC’s Monte Creek Ranch Winery’s Red Blend and garnished with lychee pearls.
Kobe’s roots go back to 1968, when Michael Bruser introduced Vancouver to a dining experience inspired by rural country inns and roadside eateries in Japan where home-spun fare was prepared using traditional teppanyaki-hibachi methods.

In the 80’s Michael’s son Brian Bruser took the reins of the restaurant and has handled the operations since then. Now that role has been passed on to his son Dylan Bruser, representing the third generation of ownership at Kobe.
A visit to Kobe is more than just an ordinary dining experience, as skilled master chefs and showmen transform your meal into dinner and a show. Other standout menu options that locals have come to love include the “Emperor’s Feast,” the “Ultimate,” and the show-stopping “Godzilla.”
