“We wish all those affected a speedy recovery”: Ken Sim reacts to stabbing in Vancouver’s Chinatown

During the Light Up Chinatown festival Sunday night, three people were stabbed just before 6pm.

According to Vancouver Police, the festival attendees were attacked by a stranger near the festival’s stage located at Columbia and Keefer streets.

“The three victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries,” say police.

Nearby officer quickly arrested a suspect and the victims were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Shortly after the senseless attack, Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim released a statement.

“Every single person who lives in or visits our city has a right to feel safe. To see individuals physically harmed by such senseless violence is heartbreaking,” said Sim.

“Our city stands shoulder to shoulder with Light up Chinatown!, our Chinese community and all those who participated today. Our thoughts are with those who have been impacted by this act of violence. We wish all of those affected a speedy recovery, and offer our support to their families and loved ones.”

Ken Sim also acknowledged the VPD’s quick response.

“At this time, we would like to acknowledge and thank the Vancouver Police Department for their quick response to this incident, and for doing what they do each and every day to make our city a safer place.”

Police Chief Adam Palmer and Mayor Ken Sim will be joined by community leaders to hold a press conference Monday morning at 11am to address the stabbing in Chinatown.
