A traffic stop at King George Boulevard and Highway 10 in Surrey Tuesday night led to an extensive chase and lengthy road closures. At 9:20pm, the Surrey Gang Enforcement Team (SGET) attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a Mercedes CLS550 at King George Boulevard and Highway 10.

During the traffic stop, the vehicle “fled from police”. Police were able to locate the vehicle on Highway 99 shortly after, south of the Serpentine River overpass. From there, the driver abandoned the vehicle and ran from police into the nearby wooded area.

An extensive search was conducted, but the driver was not found. SGET, with assistance from frontline officers as well as Integrated Police Dog Services (PDS), Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team (LMDERT) and Delta Police Department (DPD) searched the area.

Police have identified the driver as a 44-year-old man from Langley.

“There was evidence of drug-trafficking located and a warrant is being sought for the driver’s arrest,” says Cst. Parm Kahlon.

The lengthly search forced police to close both the North and South lanes of Highway 99 near Mud Bay Park.

Anyone with information, including dash camera footage from the area, are asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 and quote File 23-115317.
