Police in New Westminster are investigating a stabbing that left a victim with “major abdominal trauma” Tuesday night.
A witness flagged down a New Westminster Police officer outside the police station to report that a man was in distress and in need of assistance around 10pm last night.
“Officers located the man, who appeared to the victim of a stabbing. Officers provided the man emergency first aid, which included controlling bleeding and tending to major abdominal trauma,” said a statement from the New Westminster Police Department.
The victim was transported to hospital by paramedics
Investigators believe the altercation took place near the staircase from the Front Street parkade leading into Westminster Pier Park.
“We believe there were a number of people who witnessed the event and have yet to speak to police,” stated Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “It is concerning to see this violence occurring in our downtown, especially near one of our city parks. We encourage anyone who witnessed the event or who has information about what happened to call us immediately.”

Police say they are looking for two suspects. The first suspect is described as a black male with a speech impediment, who stands approximately 6’5” tall, has a slim build, and who was wearing a horizontal stripe shirt and jeans at the time.
The second suspect is described as an Indigenous male, standing approximately 5’5”. He was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, jeans, baseball hat and a blue medical mask. The two suspects were also seen with two women at the scene.
