A man who violently stabbed a stranger inside a Tim Hortons in downtown Vancouver has been re-arrested by police after breaching the conditions of his statutory release.
Morin was arrested on a Canada-wide warrant Monday afternoon at his Vancouver halfway house.
Morin stabbed a Mexican tourist inside a Tim Hortons coffee shop in Downtown Vancouver on January 22, 2022. He was convicted of aggravated assault and was sentenced to three years in jail in June 2022.
Morin was granted statutory release by Correctional Service Canada, and was living in Vancouver while on parole.
“Among the conditions of his release was a requirement to abstain from consuming illicit drugs or alcohol,” said the VPD. “The Canada-wide warrant was issued after he allegedly breached those conditions.”
The attack happened inside the Tim Hortons at Harbour Centre, located near Seymour and West Hastings Street. The victim, a newcomer to Canada, was waiting in line when the suspect “approached from behind and repeatedly stabbed him in the back and shoulder” before running out of the store.
Morin remains in police custody at this time.
