15 people are dead and another 10 have been sent to hospital following a highway crash between a bus carrying mainly seniors and a semi-truck in Manitoba Thursday morning.
At 11:40am, Manitoba RCMP responded to a mass casualty collision between a semi-trailer that was heading eastbound on Highway 1 and a bus, carrying senior citizens from Dauphin, heading southbound on Highway 5.
“The bus had already crossed the WB lanes of Hwy 1 & was crossing the EB lanes when it was struck by the semi,” says police.

“Immediately, it became apparent that this was a mass casualty situation and the RCMP deployed all available resources to the area which included, RCMP officers from across western Manitoba, Forensic Identification Services and a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist.”
Major Crime Services has taken over the investigation and is currently on scene.
Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson issued a statement on Twitter.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also issued a statement and said he is “sending my deepest condolences to those who lost loved ones today, and I’m keeping the injured in my thoughts”.
