Police are seeking witnesses and dash cam footage after a serious head-on collision shut down the Massey Tunnel for several hours Tuesday afternoon.

In a release, BC Highway Patrol said the collision occurred at 3:45pm between a white Toyota Sienna and a white Mazda 3.

“The collision happened at 3:45 p.m. when a white Toyota Sienna and a white Mazda 3 went head-on while one of the northbound lanes was being used as a counterflow,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol.

The head-on collision shut down the tunnel for three hours. Police say both drivers, who wore the lone occupants in the cars, avoided life-altering injuries.

Investigators are now searching for witnesses and anyone with dash cam footage.

“Anyone who saw the collision, or has dash cam video of the events leading up to the collision, is asked to call BC Highway Patrol as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information is asked to call BC Highway Patrol at 604-526-9744.
