Parts of Metro Vancouver now seeing freezing rain

In News by Anywhere Vancouver

After yesterday’s historical snowfall and seeing more snow come down earlier this afternoon, parts of Metro Vancouver are now dealing with freezing rain.

A Pacific frontal system combined with lingering cold air under outflow conditions will produce an extended period of freezing rain. Snow has developed over the western sections of the Fraser Valley and will change to freezing rain this evening.

One Twitter user reports that freezing rain and ice pellets are now being seen in Port Moody.

“It is now a mix of ice pellets / freezing rain here in Port Moody. Getting VERY slick,” captioned the user.

Freezing rain and ice pellets are also being reported in Coquitlam, New Westminster and Vancouver.

The freezing rain is expected to transition to rain in the early Friday morning.
