Michael Gambon,, the Irish-Englishh actor who was best known for playing Dumbledore in the “Harry Potter” movies, has died at the age of 82.
A statement issued by his family says he died following a “bout of pneumonia,” PA Media news agency reported.
“We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon,” reads the statement issued by his publicist Clair Dobbs, according to PA Media news agency.
“Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside, following a bout of pneumonia.
Over his six-decade-long career, he received three Olivier Awards, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and four BAFTA Awards. In 1998, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for services to drama.
Gambon played the role of Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter film series from 2004 to 2011.
Fans quickly took to social media to share their condolences.
