Police provide update on missing Surrey teen last seen on October 22

Police are re-appealing for the public’s assistance in locating a Surrey teen who has now been missing for over two weeks.

18-year-old Joseph Maku was last seen on Tuesday, October 22nd in the 9600 block of 130 Street in Surrey.



The Surrey RCMP’s Missing Persons Unit has determined that Joseph boarded a number of transit buses that day between 3:50pm and 6:30pm, mainly between 120 Street and King George Boulevard.

Here are the bus routes he boarded:

  • 3:48pm – Route 314 Location Stop Point: 60654 – King George Station Bay #1
  • 4:10pm – Route 316 Location Stop Point: 55065 – Eastbound on 100 Avenue at 128 Street
  • 4:11pm – Route 316 Location Stop Point: 55074 – Westbound on 100 Avenue at 129A Street
  • 4:29pm – Route 314 Location Stop Point: 55007 – Southbound on 124 Street at 96 Avenue
  • 4:47pm – Route R6 Location Stop Point: 54975 – Northbound on Scott Road at 92 Avenue
  • 4:52pm – Route 316 Location Stop Point: 54920 – Westbound on 96 Avenue at Scott Road
  • 5:20pm – Route 316 Location Stop Point 55055 – Northbound on 116 Street at 90 Avenue
  • 6:26pm – Route 319 Location Stop Point 55202 – Southbound on Scott Road at 93A Avenue



“Police are sharing a new photo of Joseph as well as a map of the bus routes and locations where he boarded buses that afternoon. We are asking anyone who may have been traveling on those buses, to call Surrey RCMP if they recall seeing Joseph Maku that day,” says Sgt. Tammy Lobb, Surrey RCMP Media Relations Officer.

He is described as an 18-year black male, who stands 6′5″ tall and weight 200 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes, and braces on his teeth. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie with GAP written in white on the front, black North Delta Huskies basketball shorts, and black & white basketball shoes with reverse swoosh symbol.

To further help with search efforts, Brenda Maku, Jospeh’s sister, has set up a Facebook group to help consolidate any updates and news that becomes available.
