Investigators are sharing new details about a fatal stabbing that killed a 26-year-old in White Rock earlier this week.

The White Rock RCMP responded to a report of injured man in the 15400-block of Marine Drive just before 9:30pm Tuesday night. 26-year-old Kulwinder Singh Sohi was found on the White Rock Promenade suffering from stab wounds.

Despite lifesaving measures from first responders, he died at the scene.

Investigators now say Sohi and the suspect were involved in an altercation before the stabbing.

“Witnesses described seeing Mr. Sohi in a physical altercation with the suspect, before giving chase eastbound on the Promenade toward the parking lot adjacent to the Grand Chief Bernard Robert Charles (Pa-Kwach-Tun) Memorial Plaza,” said Sgt. Timothy Pierotti of IHIT in a release.

IHIT has also released a video to illustrate where the attack occurred.

“This occurred in a very public location. From our video review, we know there were many witnesses in the area. If you were there or parked in the area, now is the time to call IHIT,” added Sgt. Pierotti. “We will continue to work tirelessly, supported by the White Rock members as well as the other I-Teams, to identify, locate and arrest the person responsible for this tragedy.”

The suspect is described by witnesses as a black male, approximately 5’11, wearing a dark coloured hat and a grey hoodie.

Another stabbing occurred near the White Rock Pier a few nights earlier on April 21st. A 28-year-old victim was transported to hospital after he was stabbed near the White Rock Pier. The 28-year-old was transported to hospital by Emergency Health Services with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect in Sunday’s attack is described as a black male, wearing a ball cap and a grey hoodie. While the suspect description provided by police in both incidents are similar, the RCMP cannot confirm that the two stabbings are related.

Both violent attacks have raised concerns in the community and police are increasing patrols near the waterfront area.

“Understandably, the incidents have raised concerns surrounding safety in our community. I share those concerns. These acts of violence are the top priority for me and the detachment,” said RCMP Staff Sergeant Rob Dixon.
