A man found to be in possession of an “edged weapon” was arrested by police in New Westminster last week.

Police responded to reports of two men pushing and punching one another in the 700 block of 8th Street around noon on October 28th. Callers told police that one of the men “brandished an edged weapon before walking away”.

“Witnesses called police immediately and relayed a very detailed suspect description,” said the department in a release.

Thanks to the detailed description, the suspect located the suspect and arrested him without incident.

“The suspect was found to be in possession of an edged weapon and it was seized by police. The other man involved in the altercation could not be located,” added the department.

As the investigation continues, police are looking to speak with the other man involved.

“We’d like to speak with the other man involved to understand the full circumstances of what happened,” stated Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “If you were part of this altercation or witnessed it, please reach out to investigators.”

Witnesses and anyone with information are asked to contact the New Westminster Police Department at 604-525-5411.
