Here’s a new weather term for you: Omega block. This “Omega block” is set to dominate the weather in Metro Vancouver this week and bring some serious heat to the region.
“This ‘Omega block’ will dominate the country’s weather, locking in the heat for some while others are left to wonder what happened to an early taste of true summertime warmth,” says The Weather Network.

The weather agency says that Metro Vancouver will experience highs close to 30°C which is quite unusual for the region
“Combined with the heat a few weeks ago, it’s an unusual feat for the Lower Mainland to reach the 30s twice so early in the year.”
So what exactly is an Omega block?
“Omega blocks earn their moniker because the resulting upper-level pattern resembles the Greek letter Omega,” says The Weather Network.
“This setup features a large ridge of high pressure bookended on either side by centres of low pressure aloft. These blocks can stick around for a while, sometimes shifting slightly west or east for the duration.”
Now that we know what an Omega block is, let’s look at this week’s forecast.
Tuesday will see nothing but clear skies and a high of 26°C. Wednesday is shaping up to be the hottest day of the week with a daytime high of 30°C.
