A fire that ripped through three homes in Coquitlam Tuesday morning has sadly claimed the life of one person.
Shortly after 9am, emergency crews responded to the 700 block of Roderick Avenue after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a fire.
Fire crews located a deceased individual inside a residence.
“Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and all those impacted by this tragic incident,” said Sgt. Adriana O’Malley, Coquitlam RCMP Media Relations Officer.
An 18-year-old was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital for smoke inhalation.
In total, three homes in the neighbourhood were engulfed by the fire before crews were able to put it out.
“Coquitlam RCMP has assumed conduct of the investigation and is working collaboratively with Coquitlam Fire/Rescue Services and the BC Coroners Service,” added Sgt. O’Malley.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been determined, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
