Phonatic Social in North Vancouver is marking its first anniversary by offering guests 10% off all dine-in orders from August 24th to 30th.
Located at 751 Lonsdale Ave, this beloved family-run Vietnamese restaurant celebrates the rich flavours of Northern Vietnam.
“Every dish at Phonatic tells a story,” says Owner Nick Nguyen. “Whether it’s the soul-warming aroma or a Pho broth or the crisp freshness of herbs hand-picked from local markets, we honour our roots by staying true to time-honoured techniques while embracing the spirit of culinary innovation. We wanted to create a space that is more than a restaurant — it’s a place where stories are shared, friendships are deepened, and cultures come together around the table.”
The family roots at Phonatic run deep, with Nguyen teaming up with his mother-in-law Kim Anh to oversee the front of house and his uncle by marriage Anh (Andy) Hoàng helming the kitchen as Head Chef.
Hoàng brings more than 15 years of culinary experience to the role, including 12 years spent as an Executive Chef.
While many local Vietnamese restaurants showcase a broad approach to the country’s cuisine, Phonatic proudly celebrates the distinctive flavours and traditions of Northern Vietnam. That focus shines throughout Hoàng’s menu, from the signature Phở Bò, built around a deeply rich beef-bone broth simmered for 27 hours, to the Bánh Mì Đặc Biệt, inspired by Hải Phòng’s celebrated pâté tradition and featuring house-made pork liver pâté and ham.
“For me, this has never been just a job. Every day I come to the restaurant because I genuinely love creating experiences for our community. We want our guests to experience Vietnamese culture, hospitality and personality, and the warmth that defines our dishes and who we are as a people,” adds Nick Nguyen.
As part of its anniversary celebration, Phonatic sous chef James is preparing a special Cơm Tấm (Vietnamese Broken Rice), served with grilled meats, house-made sauce and fresh herbs.
The unique flavour they focus on are complemented by a selection of Old and New World wines, local and imported beers, Vietnamese coffee, zero-proof options and signature cocktails. Highlights include the Pho Cocktail, Hà Giang Fire & Spice, Maple & Calamansi Sour, Hanoi Silk, Smoky Negroni and North West Old Fashioned.
Phonatic is open daily from 11:30am, with happy hour offered from 2pm to 5 pm and a pet-friendly patio that welcomes all your four-legged friends!
