After an atmospheric river soaked Metro Vancouver last weekend, more rain and “powerful winds” are in store for the South Coast this weekend.
The good news? The Weather Network says this weekend’s system is “not expected to be as impactful” as the one we just saw a few days ago.
“A wet pattern will return to British Columbia this weekend, bringing both heavy rain and powerful winds across the province through Sunday,” says The Weather Network. “For some areas still reeling from the deadly atmospheric river event just last weekend, this upcoming forecast could seem rather daunting.”
The north and central coast are likely to see 75 to 125 mm of rain from Friday to Sunday. Here in the Lower Mainland, could see 20 to 50 mm of rain by Sunday. Port Coquitlam is forecast to receive up to 60 mm of rain this time around.
Unlike the last storm, stronger winds are expected this time. Wind gusts of 80 to 100 km/h are expected for the central and north coast through Saturday.
“Southern coastal sections of the Lower Mainland, including White Rock and Delta, can expect to see winds gusting between 50-70 km/h,” says The Weather Network.
During the last storm, Coquitlam was drenched with 256 mm of rain and West Vancouver saw over 200 mm of rain. The fall storm resulted in overflowing creeks, localized flooding, and numerous road closures across the region. In Coquitlam, a local teacher died after a mudslide washed away their house.
