“Two of the six drivers stopped by Richmond RCMP RSU had previously been impounded for excessive speed in the previous two years,” Richmond RCMP in a release.
“Richmond RCMP RSU also stopped a vehicle where the driver was taking his eight-year-old son to hockey. The driver was travelling 138 km/h in a 80 km/h speed zone.”
The child was in the front seat “with the seatbelt behind his back and not in a booster seat” as required by the law.
“Drivers engaging in this type of behaviour are putting not only themselves but every road user at risk. These speeds are a guaranteed life altering or life ending situation if a collision were to occur,” said Cst. Frank Tarape, Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit.
