“We are currently awaiting an engineer from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to attend and make an assessment of the overpass,” Cpl. Mike Moore told Anywhere Vancouver.
There is no estimated time of arrival for the engineer.
Photos shared on social media show the semi that collided with the overpass.
“ANOTHER semi carrying heavy equipment just took out an overpass on Highway 1, this time the Peardonville Exit eastbound in Abbotsford,” tweeted out Laura Ballance.
“This should make an already hellish section of the Fraser Valley commute unreal today. Someone needs to start supplying tape measures”.
Police say Highway #1 Eastbound is down to 1 lane of travel currently with no estimated time of the remaining lane reopening.
Early on, investigators have gathered that the vehicle is over-height, and charges under the Motor Vehicle Act are being considered.
