Burnaby RCMP need help identifying a suspect who stole a $7,500 Rolex watch from a seller during a Facebook Marketplace meet-up.
The victim, who was accompanied by a family member, set up a meeting through Facebook Marketplace on Friday, September 1st at at Lougheed Mall.
“The suspect declined to purchase the watch during the first meeting, but later set up another meet at the mall for the next day, advising that his mother might want to purchase the watch,” said Corporal Mike Kalanj.

The suspected didn’t purchase the watch, but set up another meeting the next day saying that “his mother might want to purchase the watch”. During their second meet-up again at Lougheed Mall, the seller let the suspect try on the watch.
“This time when the victim, a senior, let him try the watch on, he fled the area,” said Corporal Mike Kalanj.
The suspect is described as:
- 6’ tall
- 20-25 years old
- Slim build

“We recommend taking every safety precaution possible when making online marketplace purchases, including meeting buyers or sellers outside our detachment or one of our Community Police Offices,” said Corporal Mike Kalanj with Burnaby RCMP.
“If you can identify this suspect, please call our investigators.”
