Serial killer Robert Pickton dead after prison attack

Canadian serial killer Robert Pickton has died after being assaulted in prison.

“Robert Pickton, an inmate from Port-Cartier Institution, died in hospital following injuries resulting from an assault involving another inmate on May 19, 2024,” said the Correctional Service Canada (CSC) in a statement.



Port-Cartier Institution, located in the north shore region of Quebec, is a stand-alone maximum-security institution.

At the time of his death, Pickton had been serving an indeterminate sentence since December 11th, 2007 for six counts of second-degree murder.

He was convicted in 2007 of the second-degree murders of six women, and was also charged with the deaths of an additional twenty women. Pickton was sentenced to life in prison, with no possibility of parole for 25 years.



Investigators discovered the human remains and DNA of his victims at his pig farm in Port Coquitlam, approximately 27 kilometres east of Vancouver. Many of his victims were from Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.

The police and the coroner have been notified of the 74-year-old’s death.
