A serious crash has closed all the eastbound lanes on Highway 1 in Chilliwack Tuesday afternoon.
The eastbound lanes are closed at Chilliwack River Bridge just before Yale Road. The westbound left lane is also blocked. BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) and Chilliwack RCMP responded to the multi-vehicle incident around 2:45pm this afternoon.
Breaking: Major motor vehicle incident has shut down Hwy 1 eastbound near Chilliwack. One westbound lane remains open. BC Highway Patrol & first responders are on scene. Expect significant delays in both directions through Chilliwack.

“Police can confirm that there are fatalities and multiple people injured. The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) has been called out and will be attending to assist the investigation,” said BC Highway Patrol.
People are being asked to avoid the area until further notice and to check Drive BC for updates on when the highway will reopen. As of 9:25pm, the highway remains closed.

The Abbotsford Police Department says the road closure is “expected to remain throughout the evening and night”.
