Popular Mount Pleasant seafood spot to reopen as new music lounge

It’s the end of an era for one popular Mount Pleasant seafood spot.

Smitty’s Oyster House on Main Street closed its doors for good this past weekend, but is reopening as a new concept: Anthem Sound Lounge.

The relaunch represents a new start for owner/operator Matt Thompson, who is known for his restaurants such as Park Drive, Cannibal Café, Bingo Taco, and Alphabet City. The long-time restaurateur is opening Anthem Sound Lounge with “renewed vigour” following his recovery from liver transplant surgery two years ago.

“We’ve had a great run and I thank the team at the OG Smitty’s in Gibsons for being such fantastic partners during my recovery, but I’m looking forward to getting back to my roots as an operator and adding a new feel to this legendary space,” says Thompson. “We’re looking forward to saying farewell to Smitty’s with all our regulars and friends and family this weekend before we unveil our new concept.”

Anthem Sound Lounge will bring a new neighbourhood bar and lounge experience to the beating heart of Mount Pleasant’s restaurant and nightlife scene with a list of creative cocktails and craft beer alongside a menu of casual snacks, share plates, handhelds and Thompson’s pandemic Anthem Pizza project. The space will feature live DJs and “vibes to spare”.

Anthem Sound Lounge is holding their soft launch on Thursday, October 31st before having their grand opening on Thursday, November 14th.
