An incoming storm that’s set to soak Metro Vancouver this weekend is already causing havoc.
The Stanley Park Ghost Train has been forced to temporarily close on Friday as an atmospheric river approaches the region this afternoon.
“Due to extreme weather expected this weekend, including heavy rains and strong winds, the Stanley Park Railway will be closed on Friday, October 18, and all Ghost Train rides are cancelled to prioritize the safety of guests and staff,” reads a statement from the popular Halloween attraction.
Ticketholders will get a refund from Showpass.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement Wednesday afternoon that covers Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, Howe Sound, Whistler, the Sunshine Coast, and Vancouver Island.
“A strong fall storm system will direct an atmospheric river towards the South Coast, bringing heavy rain to the region. Rain is expected to begin early in the day on Friday and continue into Sunday morning. The rain will ease by Sunday afternoon,” says Environment Canada.
“Rainfall totals are forecast to reach 40 to 70 mm in general, with the lower amounts expected south of the Fraser River and potentially exceeding 100 mm over the coastal mountains.”
The heavy rain will be accompanied by strong winds.
The weather agency is warning people about water pooling on the roads, swollen rivers and creeks, and increased risk of washouts, rockfall, and landslides. Power outages are also possible from tree damage due to strong winds.
