A man was taken to hospital after a stranger stabbing in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside over the weekend.
The incident occurred around 3am on Sunday, January 18th.
“A VPD officer patrolling near Hastings and Abbott streets was flagged over around 2:50 a.m. on January 18 by a group of people reporting their friend had just been assaulted by a stranger, who allegedly used a knife to slash the victim’s shoulder,” said police in a release.
The suspect was arrested following a “brief foot pursuit and taser deployment”.
29-year-old Heather Pitsanuk has been charged with one count of assault with a weapon and one count of assault causing bodily harm.

“Pitsanuk was wanted Canada-wide for breach of parole, and B.C.-wide for failure to comply with a probation order, at the time of her arrest,” adds the release.
The victim, a 31-year-old man, was treated in hospital and is recovering.
Pitsanuk remains in police custody.
