The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has identified the victim of a targeted shooting that occurred in Surrey Monday afternoon.

Police responded to calls of a shooting near the 7900 block 120 Street in Surrey around 5:25pm on March 3rd. Officers located a male driver “suffering life-threatening injuries”.

Despite life-saving measures, one man succumbed to his injuries at scene.

In an update Tuesday afternoon, IHIT identified the victim as 29-year-old Jaskaran Singh Minhas in hopes this will help advance the investigation. Investigators say Minhas was “known to police and is believed to have connections to organized crime”.

“This was a targeted, brazen shooting in a high-traffic area,” says Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. “Those involved displayed a complete disregard for public safety.”

“This shooting has the hallmarks of a targeted, gang-related homicide and the IGHT will be taking lead. We believe there are at least two suspects involved and investigators are working diligently to identify all parties. Investigators are currently interviewing witnesses, collecting evidence and canvassing for video.”

Shortly after the shooting, the Delta Police Department responded to reports of a vehicle fire in the area of 64 Avenue and Westview Drive, Delta. IHIT has confirmed the burnt vehicle found in Delta is “the suspect vehicle involved in the shooting”.
