Victim of targeted gang shooting in Richmond identified by police

A 36-year-old Richmond man has been identified as the victim of Thursday’s fatal shooting in the 8000-block of Minler Road.

The victim is identified as 36-year-old Ravinder Samra and the ongoing investigation links this shooting to the ongoing BC gang war.

“Mr. Samra was known to police and we believe this was a targeted shooting associated to the BC Gang Conflict,” says IHIT spokesperson Corporal Sukhi Dhesi.

At 5:45pm, police responded to the 8000-block of Milner Road where they found Samra suffering from gunshot wounds. The 36-year-old died at the scene.

Shortly after, investigators found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames in the 12000-block of Blundell Road.

“These are unsettling incidents for members of our community. I urge anyone who wishes to talk to someone to contact Victim Services and IHIT investigators,” says IHIT spokesperson Corporal Sukhi Dhesi.

Police are looking to speak with witnesses and collect footage.

“Anyone in the area of the12000-block of Blundell Road from July 27, 2023 between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., with dashcam or CCTV footage is urged to contact IHIT immediately.”
