Alex Kim, the Culinary Director of Glowbal Restaurant Group’s Five Sails, struck gold and claimed the crown as the nation’s top chef at the 2025 Canadian Culinary Championship in Ottawa earlier this year.
Now until March 19th, Chef Alex Kim is hosting a tasting menu showcasing the dishes that earned him the title of Canada’s Top Chef.
Alex qualified for the competition alongside nine other chefs after winning one of Canada’s Great Kitchen Party regional competitions held across the country. The weekend kicked off ith a Mystery Wine pairing event Friday night and continued Saturday with a Black Box competition that allowed chefs one hour to create a dish using mystery ingredients.
The tasting menu, priced at $155 per guest, highlights the BC-focused fare that helped Chef Kim turn heads and tempt the palates of judges at the recent competition. The menu includes dishes such as BC Side Stripe Shrimp (crudo, yuzu gel & vinaigrette, shrimp shell tuille, cucumber), Sablefish & Scallop (Haida Gwaii sablefish terrine, Pemberton roasted sunchokes, Okanagan pear, toasted sunflower seed), Duck & Mushroom (Fraser Valley dry aged duck breast, chestnut mushrooms lardo ragu, celeriac, Parisian gnocchi), and more.
His award-winning dishes can be also complemented with wine pairings curated by Five Sails Head Sommelier Alexandre Blais. The wine pairings are comprised of celebrated wineries in BC’s backyard like Little Engine, Tinhorn Creek, Cedar Creek, Hillside, La Stella and Cedar Creek. This is available for an additional $95 per person, with an additional Signature Sommelier Pairing option available for $195 per person.

After emigrating to Canada as a teenager, Kim worked the line at several of Alberta’s top luxury hotel properties before moving to Vancouver to advance his culinary career. He first joined the Glowbal family in 2021 as Executive Chef at its flagship Glowbal Restaurant.
Kim is the fifth BC-based chef to win the Canadian Culinary Championship. Melissa Craig of Whistler’s Bearfoot Bistro (2008), Alex Chen and Roger Ma of Vancouver’s Boulevard Kitchen and Oyster Bar (2018 and 2020), and Jasper Cruickshank of Whistler’s Wild Blue Restaurant + Bar (2024) won the award in previous years.
